Premium navigation for all without compromise: introducing the new TomTom Via

Premium navigation for all without compromise: introducing the new TomTom Via

~ TomTom premium satnav solution for mid-range market with hands-free calling on select models ~

Berlin - The launch of the new TomTom Via device today makes TomTom the first satnav provider to bring a hands-free solution with Voice Control to mid-range devices. Packed with innovative features and designed for convenience, the TomTom Via makes premium navigation accessible to all.

'The TomTom Via brings high-end navigation to the mid-market – without compromising quality and convenience,' says Damian Woodward, VP sales and marketing at TomTom. 'From the exciting new Voice Control and hands-free calling, to the market-leading IQ Routes™, it's everything drivers need for a truly effortless driving experience.'

TomTom Via drivers also get the added benefit of TomTom Speed Cameras. This points out fixed speed camera locations on the road ahead, helping drivers to stay safe and relaxed.

A first for the mid-range market, Voice Control lets drivers operate their device simply by talking. They can input addresses and navigate with ease – all without taking their hands off the wheel or their eyes off the road. On Via 120 and 125 models, TomTom also brings hands-free calling (via Bluetooth®) to the mid-market audience, allowing drivers to use their device as a car-kit for their mobile phone.

The TomTom Via also provides a reliable Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) at any time of the day based on intelligent IQ Routes speed profiles collected from millions of users. Now drivers can relax and go with the flow, knowing exactly when they're due to arrive.

The TomTom Via also has the added convenience of a brand new foldaway mount which is integrated with the device, so it's always there when drivers need it. This clever mount easily attaches to the windscreen and, using the optional mounting disk, drivers can turn the device 180 degrees – a sensor flips the screen the right way up, enabling them to position it wherever suits them best.

And that's not all: with the TomTom Via, drivers can see more and drive easy thanks to a new user interface, plus a choice of a 11cm (4.3') or 13cm (5') touch screen for the easiest operation. And every device comes with new, richer maps covering an additional two million kilometres of roads in greater graphical detail, putting more information at drivers' fingertips. All this is wrapped up in a stylish, brushed aluminum design, with the diamond-cut screen bezel edge.

For premium navigation for the mid-market without compromising convenience, it has to be the TomTom Via.

Availability and pricing The TomTom Via will be available in the Autumn and also comes in a version with LIVE Services (see separate release on the TomTom Via LIVE).

Intel and Nokia Create First Joint Laboratory

University Research Center Will Lead to New User Interfaces and Experiences

NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

* Intel Corporation, Nokia and the University of Oulu have announced the establishment of their first joint research center.
* One of the first objectives of the new lab is to create new and compelling mobile user experiences that leverage the rapidly increasing capabilities of mobile devices.
* The lab is the latest member of Intel Labs Europe – Intel's European Research Network.

OULU, Finland, - Intel Corporation, Nokia and the University of Oulu officially opened the Intel and Nokia Joint Innovation Center today. It will employ about two dozen R&D professionals and become the latest member of Intel's European Research Network, Intel Labs Europe.

Initially the lab will conduct research for new and compelling mobile user experiences that could leverage the rapidly increasing capabilities of mobile devices. Creating interfaces that are more similar to interactions in the real world can enable experiences that are more natural and intuitive, in the same way that modern games and movies are more immersive through the use of realistic 3-D graphics.

The new lab is well aligned with the MeeGo open source platform recently launched by Intel and Nokia. MeeGo provides the greatest flexibility for developing new 3-D experiences on mobile devices as much of the lab's research activity will also be open source.

'The University of Oulu's focus on future telecommunications solutions as well as electronics and photonics made it the perfect location for the Intel and Nokia Joint Innovation Center,' says Justin Rattner, Intel chief technology officer and director of Intel Labs.

Another potential area of research could look into technologies that allow displaying a 3-D hologram of the person you are talking to on the phone, a capability only found in science fiction movies today. Consumers will feel more involved and engaged with their mobile experience than with current methods.

'3-D technology could change the way we use our mobile devices and make our experiences with them much more immersive,' said Rich Green, Senior vice president and chief technical officer, Nokia. 'Our new joint laboratory with Intel draws on the Oulu research community's 3-D interface expertise, and over time will lay down some important foundations for future mobile experiences.'

The lab will be located at the Center for Internet Excellence at the University of Oulu, and will work closely with the Oulu Urban Living Labs, which provide a unique environment for sensor research, testing and piloting technological and social innovations. The Intel and Nokia Joint Innovation Center follows a successful industry and academia collaboration model similar to the ones of Intel Labs Barcelona and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Spain, the Intel Visual Computing Institute and the Saarland University in Germany or Intel Labs Berkeley at the University of California at Berkeley in the United States.

About Intel Labs Europe
Intel R&D/Innovation in Europe is driven by a network of research labs, product development labs and innovation labs spanning the region as well as a variety of Intel business units. Today, Intel's European research & development network, Intel Labs Europe, consists of 22 labs employing more than 900 R&D professionals.

Nokia debuts ‘Touch and Type’ design with the latest Nokia X3

Espoo, Finland - In a move to continue driving innovation in its market leading mobile phone range, Nokia today unveils the super slim Nokia X3 Touch and Type, with a unique combination of a touch screen and traditional 12 button phone keypad. Los Angeles, CA, August 17, 2010—As it crosses 600,000 downloads in 84 countries, LOCiMOBILE®, Inc. a wholly-owned subsidiary of GTX Corp (OTCBB: GTXO), has inked a deal with Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd., the world's second-largest handset manufacturer in 2009 with sales of more than 235 million units (source, Gartner February 2010) to deliver its family of GPS Tracking Apps to Samsung's new line of smartphones and bada platform.

Samsung, a leading mobile phone provider, launched its own open mobile platform, Samsung bada, in December 2009. This new addition to Samsung's mobile ecosystem enables developers to create applications for millions of new Samsung mobile phones, and offers consumers a fun and diverse mobile experience. Samsung chose the name 'bada'—which means 'ocean' in Korean—to convey the limitless variety of potential applications that can be created using their new platform.

In the agreement, GTX Corp will develop versions of its tremendously popular GPS Tracking apps specifically for mobile phones that will run Samsung's new bada operating system. GTX expects its GPS Tracking apps to be featured for sale on the Samsung Application Store beginning in October 2010. Of the 40 million estimated Samsung handsets expected to ship between now and mid-2011, 15-20 million will be the new 'Scotia' models, to be shipped before the end of 2010.

'The Samsung bada platform further advances our march towards universal availability for our people-finder apps," says GTX Corp CEO Patrick Bertagna. 'We're delighted to have been asked by Samsung to participate in this new market and add the bada platform to our current list along with Apple, Android and RIM. We anticipate bada to be huge out of the gate and a tremendous boost to our business in the US and worldwide.'

GTX Corp's announcement follows on the heels of an 89% increase in its revenues over the previous quarter and a number of recent software and hardware deals, including the launch of its new consumer based social networking portal www.gpstrackingapps.com. The company also formally launched its GPS Tracking app for the iPad several weeks ago and has already updated that app to version 1.1, and is launching a new GPS camera app this coming month, which will continue to add value to the growing suite of LOCiMOBILE GPS apps.

On the hardware side, developments include embedding miniaturized GPS tracking devices in the Aetrex Ambulator® GPS shoe, which just debuted to the trade at the WSA Show in Las Vegas, and for packages with international shipper MNX.

'We aim to continually drive developments that increase the value and strength of our Company, concludes Bertagna. The Samsung agreement vastly increases our visibility in the US and abroad, and further validates our GPS Tracking model of letting consumer and business users get the answer to 'Where is my friend, co–worker, family member or high-value asset?' with one push of a button.'
ABI Research predicts that more than 550 million GPS-enabled handsets will be shipped by 2012. LOCiMOBILE®, with 10 GPS apps on the market and 3 more in development across 4 major platforms, continues to gain traction and momentum in what is estimated to be a $29 billion dollar market by end of 2013.
