bigmouthmedia reveals most UK brands don’t understand the value of mobile visitors

A bigmouthmedia survey has revealed that more than three quarters of the UK's big brands do not understand the value of a visitor via mobile compared to other digital channels

The research, which polled the views of key decision makers at a raft of leading UK companies, shows that despite a significant 89.2% of respondents sharing the belief that mobile marketing will become increasingly important over the next 12 months, very few have fully embraced the channel. Reflecting the uncertainty with which many businesses regard the emerging the field, 70.3% of those surveyed currently don't have any engagement with mobile marketing at all.

"We are at a critical point in the evolution of mobile marketing. A growing group of organisations are starting to derive competitive advantage from their early mover status in the channel, yet the vast majority of companies have yet to gauge the impact it is likely to have on their business," said Simon Heyes, Head of International Sales Operations at Bigmouthmedia.

"There are no benefits to be derived from being slow on the uptake. With the mobile channel set to become increasingly influential over the next few years, companies need to move now, engage with the medium and start building the campaigns that are going to keep them ahead of the game."

Despite an apparent lack of engagement with the channel the research revealed a keen awareness of the potential advantages, with 75.7% of respondents citing increased brand awareness as the main benefit of undertaking mobile marketing, and 67.6% believing increased customer engagement to also be a major benefit. Over 60% also believed that increased traffic, leads and sales were also a major driver.

Bigmouthmedia's survey - conducted amongst a large group of large and medium sized enterprises - showed that just 5.4% companies describe themselves as being "heavily involved" in mobile marketing at the current time. Another statistic to emerge is that while they considered the channel increasingly influential, 75% of the respondents claimed not to know the relative value of a visitor from mobile compared to other channels.

"What is clear from our research is that while the vast majority of businesses accept that mobile is going to become a critical part of the marketing mix, there is a great deal of uncertainty over how to approach the channel, and in particular how to get buy in from the wider organisation. Companies know they need to get on board the mobile bandwagon, but a lack of clear understanding is holding many back from exploiting its potential," said Heyes.

Another recent forecast from Morgan Stanley found that at the rate its usage is accelerating, mobile internet use will overtake desktop internet use by 2015.

'In many ways the UK is behind many other markets when it comes to mobile adoption, with territories like Japan, the Philippines and Thailand already using mobile internet services much more than their European counterparts. In many organisations mobile has taken a back seat because the focus is still on mainstream digital strategy, but British companies can't afford to make the same mistakes they did with the social media revolution, which commerce has only just got to grips with after three long years. This time, the winners will be those who are quickest off the mark," added Heyes.

Cardmobili Grows Loyalty and Member Card Service in North America

Company adds more than 100 membership, loyalty, rewards and association cards within first two weeks to bring global total to more than 650

Minneapolis, MN and Porto, Portugal – July 20, 2010 – Cardmobili, a leading provider of mobile loyalty and member services, today announced more than 100 new cards have been added to its service, bringing the total available in North America to more than 400 brand name cards and over 650 worldwide. Cardmobili (www.cardmobili.com) provides a free application that allows consumers to carry loyalty, membership, rewards and association cards on a user's mobile phone.

Within the first two weeks of the service going live, Cardmobili received a multitude of card-issuer suggestions, while users also added specific reward, loyalty and membership cards directly. As the cards are introduced, they become available to other Cardmobili members to add to their account. If a program isn't national or found on the service, users can always create a generic card that contains important program details such as their account number. Recently added cards include those that are regionally focused cards, such as Pike's Nursery and LA Fitness Club to nationally known brands like REI.

'Cardmobili's mobile loyalty application satisfies the on-the-go consumer and we love hearing from our users on what they need to make our service the most valuable to them,' said Helena Leite, CEO of Cardmobili. 'Cardmobili's application is simple and provides immediate value by eliminating the need to carry physical cards and data about the programs that mean the most to individual user. The overwhelming positive response from our users has illustrated that Cardmobili is solving a real problem and filling an emerging need with Cardmobili's mobile loyalty cloud.'

Mobile loyalty is a fast growing market that gives program issuers the opportunity to see higher customer usage, greater program redemption and increased brand loyalty. It also is opening up new channels of communication between retailers, merchants, travel programs and their consumers where users benefit from a greater number of member perks, coupons and special incentives delivered directly to their mobile phone.

Cardmobili is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod in the U.S. App Store, as well as Java‐based smartphones and feature phones, including popular models from Nokia, Samsung, LG and Motorola. New business models possible for mobile broadband

* Telkomsel turns to Ericsson for cost-efficient data traffic management solution
* Better service offerings available to more than 86 million Indonesians, based on their network use and needs
* Operator can handle traffic more efficiently, ensuring users get the services they pay for, even during network peak hours

With more than 5 billion mobile subscriptions globally and traffic growth skyrocketing, there is a critical need for operators to prioritize traffic in the network and differentiate between subscribers so that each user gets the speed, access and quality they are paying for. Now Indonesia's leading operator Telkomsel has taken action by being the first to introduce a new Dynamic End-to-End Policy Control solution enabling service differentiation for their 86 million subscribers. The solution will be delivered by Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC).

Telkomsel's efficient utilization of radio and transport networks will be enhanced through deployment of the policy control solution. Ericsson's data traffic management solution design is based on the principles of supply and demand where available capacity is shared according to subscribers' different policy agreements. Data traffic is prioritized so that higher-paying subscribers get access, high speed and quality even during network peak hours, while other users receive different priority.

Sarwoto Atmosutarno, President Director of Telkomsel, says: "As traffic is growing with more capacity-demanding services and higher download speeds, we must adjust to our users' different expectations and needs. With our new solution, subscribers will be able to choose a pricing option that best suits their individual needs, depending on what services or applications they're using and how much they're willing to pay."

Johan Wibergh, head of Ericsson's Business Unit Networks, says: "The competition is intensifying, and operators need to ensure that users get the quality of service that they expect and are willing to pay for. By customizing the pricing plan for each specific user segment, Telkomsel will improve their operations and business, and most likely attract even more subscribers."

Ericsson is the supplier and prime system integrator of the complete Dynamic End-to-End Policy Control solution which is verified for a multi-vendor core and radio network environment. Ericsson's Dynamic End-to-End Policy Control solution is compliant with the 3GPP standard and allows for a smooth migration to the next generation of mobile broadband, based on LTE technology.

The demonstration today was performed with a USB dongle with a TD-LTE chipset from ST-Ericsson. Ericsson has successfully executed TD-LTE interoperability testing (IOT) with ST-Ericsson, and testing with two other chipset/terminal vendors is expected to be finalized soon.

Ericsson has introduced a new base station as part of its TD-LTE offering. Based on the latest multi-standard base station, RBS 6000, the TD-LTE base station offers a highly integrated solution with minimal dimensions and low energy consumption that is fit for every implementation scenario. In addition, the innovation is capable of supporting LTE Advanced technology, promising operators a smooth migration plan.

Mats H Olsson, President of Ericsson China & North East Asia says: "The successful demonstration today reflects not only Ericsson's undisputed technology leadership in the LTE domain, but also our unwavering commitment to the development of TD-LTE in China and elsewhere in the world. We will make every effort to support China Mobile in bringing revolutionary mobile broadband experiences to tens of millions of Chinese consumers in the near future."

ST-Ericsson, a leader in wireless platforms and semiconductors, was the first in the world to demonstrate a handheld LTE device and to achieve LTE and HSPA mobility with a multimode device. Available next year, ST-Ericsson's next generation modem will support both versions of LTE, in addition to TD-SCDMA and HSPA+/EDGE. With ST-Ericsson's products, Ericsson is now the only player with complete end-to-end TD-LTE capabilities in the industry.

"Drawing on six years of LTE research and development, today's demonstration underlines ST-Ericsson's position as a frontrunner in the rollout of the next-generation of mobile broadband platforms," said Magnus Hansson, Senior Vice President and head of LTE and 3G Modem Solutions at ST-Ericsson. "Through our cooperation with China Mobile and Ericsson, devices based on our chipsets will soon enable people to enjoy the many benefits of super-fast mobile broadband.
