Droid X, Still Available Online

The Droid X, launched on July 15th, was almost immediately sold out. Just about two weeks later, Verizon is still struggling to get it back on shelves.

"There are still small inventories available," said cell phone consultant Chris Andrews, "But it can be really hard to find them. The Droid X has been a huge hit with consumers.'

Andrews, who tracks cell phone availability and pricing on his website, says the Droid X is still available at a price of $179 (with purchase of a two year Verizon plan).

Daily updated information is on his site at: http://www.andrews.com/cell-phones/phone/Droid_X-Verizon.html

While Verizon itself is sold out, 'Some Verizon authorized dealers bought huge inventories up front,' according to Andrews, 'even those supplies are dwindling down.'

The Droid X situation mirrors Verizon's inventory issues with it's Android based Droid Incredible. Both are backordered into August shipping dates. This even though Verizon had assured consumers that they had plenty of Droid X in stock and a second wave of inventory ready to go.

With the popularity of the Droid X, some analyst have speculated that part of the Droid X shortage may be caused by consumers with Droid Incredible backorders switching to the Droid X. Something that would have been avoided if the supply chain was in better shape.

"For consumers that miss out on getting the Droid X while it's still available online, the only choice left will be backordering, either online or in stores," stated Andrews, "But there is no telling exactly how long the wait may be.'

Infineon Introduces Wireless Receivers For Automotive and Consumer Applications Offering Highest Sensitivity, Low Power Consumption and Flexible Multi-Protocol Support

Neubiberg, Germany - Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) today introduced an enhanced family of three wireless control receivers offering highest available sensitivity and low power consumption. The TDA5240, TDA5235 and TDA5225 devices provide multi-band support (315MHz, 434MHz, 868MHz and 915MHz) for worldwide coverage and are well-suited for use in various automotive applications, including Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) systems, Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS), remote start, control, status and alarm functions. In addition, industrial and consumer systems such as short range radio data transmission, garage door openers, cordless alarm systems, remote metering and low-power telemetry will benefit from the high-integrated wireless control devices. The receivers also are capable of taking over some of the tasks that are typically performed by the system's microcontroller.

The TDA5240, TDA5235 and TDA5325 are successors to the TDA5230/31 receiver family. Two of the devices include the powerful digital data processing introduced with the TDA5230/31, with overall performance and feature set enhancements. Functionalities like IF filter (optional usage of external filter is possible) and level shifters are now integrated. Only a few external components are needed which leads to reduced BOM. An innovative integrated Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) concept provides the system developers with enhanced design alternatives. Depending on the application needs this LNA can extend the system range or eliminate the need for an external LNA to reduce system complexity and costs.

'Introduction of this new series of wireless control receivers underlines Infineon's market leadership in the RKE receiver segment,' said Matthias Halsband, Director Wireless Sense and Control within the Automotive division at Infineon Technologies. 'The new devices combine highest sensitivity and low power consumption with multi-protocol handling to increase performance and reduce system cost.'

High sensitivity of the new family (typically -119dBm for FSK and typically -116dBm for ASK) is due to a reduced noise figure and noise bandwidth using improved digital signal processing. Compared to Infineon's current receiver products, which offer an average data rate of 40kchip/s, the TDA5240/35/25 devices provide a data rate with several embedded encodings and modulation schemes specified at up to 112kchip/s (FSK).

System designers can use the multi-band, multi-channel receivers for systems operating at frequency bands 315/434/868/915MHz, with one crystal for all supported frequency bands. A high-resolution sigma-delta fractional-N PLL synthesizer provides a fine multi-channel resolution of 10.5Hz.

Multi-protocol handling enables flexible designs based on one platform. The receivers are able to handle data from both RKE and TPMS transmitters, even when they have different modulation, bit rate, and data format. Therefore only one device can be used for multiple applications (RKE, TPMS, remote start, etc.) where today there is the need for two.

The wireless control receivers are based on a CMOS process providing low power consumption. The supply current is only 0.8μA in power down and 12mA in run mode. An ultrafast fallback to sleep function reduces the receiver's active time, when no data is available for further reduction of the average power consumption. Up to four parallel parameter sets for autonomous scanning and reception from different sources reduce significantly the host processor and system standby power consumption.

The TDA5240 and TDA5235 support an autonomous receive mode where desired payload is automatically extracted and interrupts can trigger the host controller to read payload from the FIFO memory. The host controller remains asleep when unwanted RF-signals are received. This reduces noise from the host controller, which further improves sensitivity and reduces power consumption of the system. Support for additional encodings (bi-phase, NRZ) and market-leading coverage of automotive RKE/PASE/TPMS protocols results in high flexibility while minimizing software development effort. The TDA5225 comes without digital baseband processing to support designs based on standard concepts with data processed in the microcontroller.

Availability and Pricing

The product family members differentiate mainly in the multi-channel and digital baseband functionality. The new pin-compatible TDA5240/35/25 wireless control receivers in TSSOP-28 packages are available in volume production. The automotive qualified devices operate at a supply voltage of 3.3V or 5.0V and at the temperature range of -40 °C to 105 °C. Single unit price for 50k ordering quantities starts at Euro 0.80 (US $1.10) for the TDA5225. In addition, Infineon provides starter kits and tools to support the design-in of the new devices.

Further information on the TDA5240/35/25 wireless control receivers is available at www.infineon.com/wirelesscontrol and at www.infineon.com/TDA5240, www.infineon.com/TDA5235 and at www.infineon.com/TDA5225

bigmouthmedia reveals most UK brands don’t understand the value of mobile visitors

A bigmouthmedia survey has revealed that more than three quarters of the UK's big brands do not understand the value of a visitor via mobile compared to other digital channels

The research, which polled the views of key decision makers at a raft of leading UK companies, shows that despite a significant 89.2% of respondents sharing the belief that mobile marketing will become increasingly important over the next 12 months, very few have fully embraced the channel. Reflecting the uncertainty with which many businesses regard the emerging the field, 70.3% of those surveyed currently don't have any engagement with mobile marketing at all.

"We are at a critical point in the evolution of mobile marketing. A growing group of organisations are starting to derive competitive advantage from their early mover status in the channel, yet the vast majority of companies have yet to gauge the impact it is likely to have on their business," said Simon Heyes, Head of International Sales Operations at Bigmouthmedia.

"There are no benefits to be derived from being slow on the uptake. With the mobile channel set to become increasingly influential over the next few years, companies need to move now, engage with the medium and start building the campaigns that are going to keep them ahead of the game."

Despite an apparent lack of engagement with the channel the research revealed a keen awareness of the potential advantages, with 75.7% of respondents citing increased brand awareness as the main benefit of undertaking mobile marketing, and 67.6% believing increased customer engagement to also be a major benefit. Over 60% also believed that increased traffic, leads and sales were also a major driver.

Bigmouthmedia's survey - conducted amongst a large group of large and medium sized enterprises - showed that just 5.4% companies describe themselves as being "heavily involved" in mobile marketing at the current time. Another statistic to emerge is that while they considered the channel increasingly influential, 75% of the respondents claimed not to know the relative value of a visitor from mobile compared to other channels.

"What is clear from our research is that while the vast majority of businesses accept that mobile is going to become a critical part of the marketing mix, there is a great deal of uncertainty over how to approach the channel, and in particular how to get buy in from the wider organisation. Companies know they need to get on board the mobile bandwagon, but a lack of clear understanding is holding many back from exploiting its potential," said Heyes.

Another recent forecast from Morgan Stanley found that at the rate its usage is accelerating, mobile internet use will overtake desktop internet use by 2015.

'In many ways the UK is behind many other markets when it comes to mobile adoption, with territories like Japan, the Philippines and Thailand already using mobile internet services much more than their European counterparts. In many organisations mobile has taken a back seat because the focus is still on mainstream digital strategy, but British companies can't afford to make the same mistakes they did with the social media revolution, which commerce has only just got to grips with after three long years. This time, the winners will be those who are quickest off the mark," added Heyes.

Real Estate Applications For Mobile Phones Enhance Home Buying Says Cedar Park JB Goodwin Agent Rocky Breon

There are a number of new applications available for mobile phones that have to do with the real estate industry. JB Goodwin Real Estate Agent Rocky Breon says, along with a professional realtor, these apps can aid in the home buying process.

The iPhone and other mobile devices are changing the landscape of real estate. JB Goodwin Realtor Rocky Breon says some applications for the phones are helpful, but will not replace a real live estate agent.

'The rollout of new iPhone mobile apps out on the market can really empower and add to a homebuyer's experience,' says Breon. 'They can complement the process when a person also uses a qualified real estate agent.'

A number of the applications are free, such as Zillow Real Estate Search. With this app, a potential homebuyer can find homes for sale or rent as they walk or drive through a particular neighborhood. The application lets an individual filter search results by price, number of bedrooms, and more, and people can also save their searches and email or share homes on Facebook and Twitter.

'This can be a helpful tool for people curious about what is available in a certain area,' Breon said.

Other iPhone real estate applications that aid in a home search are those that calculate the financial end of home buying or renting. While it costs a couple of bucks, Home Buying Power lets the consumer find out what they can afford to buy and how much their mortgage will be.

For those individuals unfamiliar with the real estate world, the app Dictionary of Real Estate Terms by Intersog can help explain the industry jargon. The user can browse terms such as absentee owner to mortgage rate to gain a better understanding of the lingo.

'For someone who's buying their first home and wants to be more informed, an application that defines some of the terms can be invaluable,' Breon add. 'After all, buying a house is one of life's most important decisions so it's vital that a someone goes into it with knowledge of the basic vocabulary.'

Even with all the best technology, Breon says, 'no application for a phone can ever take the place of an experienced real estate agent.'

'These applications for our mobile devices are meant to enhance a homebuyer's experience, but people still need a competent real estate agent to represent their interests and negotiate on behalf,' Breon concludes.
