Deutsche Telekom showcases 4G mobile communications at IFA

* Showcase unveils the performance and advantages of 4G technology for tomorrow's gigabit society
* A new dimension of the mobile Internet and efficient broadband coverage of "gaps" on the map
* Website launched for reservations for "Call & Surf Comfort via radio"

Deutsche Telekom is showing its latest mobile communications technology in action at IFA 2010: Visitors to the stand can try out the 4G technology for themselves in a showcase and discover its advantages. Among the novelties Deutsche Telekom's guests are able to experience are mobile video conferences in HD quality and extremely fast downloads and uploads of high-resolution movies and photos. Visitors can select and operate the 4G applications they wish to test at a huge multi-touch desk. Deutsche Telekom will also demonstrate the mobile communications technology for connected life in the gigabit society live via video link between the IFA stand and a moving car in Bonn. Deutsche Telekom's technology partners Huawei and Samsung are providing support in the execution of the showcase. Huawei is involved in setting up the network infrastructure, while Samsung supplies the USB sticks.

At the IFA, Germany's leading telecommunications provider is also unveiling its new product - "Call & Surf Comfort via radio" - which will provide broadband coverage in areas that currently have no broadband access. A newly developed router will be used for stationary applications of this kind.

Starting immediately, Deutsche Telekom will give customers and potential customers the opportunity to put their name down online for the new technology and the corresponding "Call & Surf Comfort via radio" offer. After registering at www.telekom.de/4g, they will receive information about the technology, its possibilities, and further plans. Over the coming weeks, additional information will be continuously provided on this website, which therefore serves as a comprehensive information portal for all things related to 4G.

By rolling out 4G technology, Deutsche Telekom is taking a quantum leap in broadband coverage, closing gaps in service in rural areas and facilitating mobile data transfer at speeds that are on a par with DSL in the fixed network. In the 4G field, Deutsche Telekom is systematically acting as an innovation driver, putting its first 4G base station into operation in Kyritz (Brandenburg) at the end of August 2010.

4G is essentially innovative LTE technology (LTE, Long Term Evolution). At a frequency auction held by the Federal Network Agency in May 2010, Deutsche Telekom purchased frequency blocks from the so-called digital dividend in the 800 MHz, 1.8 GHz, and 2.6 GHz bands, thereby laying the foundations for the LTE rollout. LTE based on 800 MHz will allow efficient broadband coverage to be provided in rural areas with relatively few mobile communications base stations. What is more, in higher-frequency ranges, LTE optimally complements UMTS/HSPA, the third-generation (3G) mobile communications standard, and will further significantly increase the maximum bandwidths possible throughout the network.

All in all, by the end of 2010, Deutsche Telekom plans to bring fast Internet access to over 1,000 locations (the "gaps" on the map) that currently have no broadband access. Of those, some 500 locations will receive 4G service, while the others will receive different mobile or fixed-network technologies such as UMTS or DSL. In the fixed-network area, service is being provided predominantly via close cooperation with the relevant municipalities. In the coming years, Deutsche Telekom intends to systematically continue network expansion to bring service to areas with inadequate network coverage. In 2011, the company plans to use 4G to eliminate an additional 1,000 "gaps".

Text Marketing Increases Customers and Followers for Businesses and Groups

A new service called MessageShout.com, allows businesses to use text marketing to attract new customers and followers. The text marketing service lets business owners send coupons, specials, discounts, alerts, or just about anything that the business or group wants to convey by mobile text message. Businesses and groups across the United States are using text marketing to increase their customer base and followers with outstanding results.

Just as American Idol used text message technology to involve the audience to participate in the voting process of contestants, small and medium size businesses can use this same kind of technology which was once out of reach until now. Text marketing is very cost effective now and with mobile phones outweighing personal computers 4 to 1, text marketing will increase dramatically within the next 5 years. Cell phone users read text messages within 15 minutes of receiving them. Mobile texts have an open rate of over 90% and when used as a mobile coupon, they have a response rate of over 30%! This is can be a game changer for most struggling businesses who are getting a 3%-5% response rate with paper coupons.

Message Shout uses true SMS Messaging short code technology to ensure that your message gets through and in front of your customers eyes. Some of their services include mobile voting, autoresponder text messaging, online sign up pages, appointment text reminders, message tracking, automatic text responses and roll over text credits.

Message Shout also can provide you with email marketing, instant messaging marketing and the ability to send your messages to the top social networks. Message Shout's mobile marketing director Matthew Hart states, 'We expect to have MMS capabilities before the end of the year which is the ability to send pictures along with text messages. We are very excited and expect this new update to increase our customers' mobile response rates even further. We believe our text marketing services can benefit any business or group.'

Message Shout's short code currently works in the U.S. only, but their email, instant message and social publishing services work anywhere in the world. Plans start as low as only $10 per month and they have a 15 day trial period. For the month of September, you can use code 'ed100' to receive an additional 50 text credits during the trial period. .

Message Shout is a text marketing service that also utilizes email, instant messaging, and social publishing to help businesses and groups of all kinds attract and market to customers and followers. You can find out more information by going to their website at http://www.MessageShout.com and signing up for a free trial account.

BT commits to help multi-national organisations save costs

BT Onevoice now features a committed savings offer

BT today launched a committed savings offer, which will deliver average savings of up to 25 per cent to new and existing virtual private network (VPN) customers who switch their voice communications to its converged communications platform BT Onevoice. The offer, available to multi-national organisations worldwide, means that customers who spend more than GBP700k per annum on voice communications will gain these savings by combining voice traffic and their global VPN traffic with BT Onevoice.1 The offer is aimed at multinational customers looking to consolidate, integrate and optimise their voice infrastructure.

'BT Onevoice is a truly compelling proposition, tailored to the global communications needs of multi-national organisations and we can clearly demonstrate the benefits of converged communications through the committed savings offer. This offer complements a series of recent innovative feature launches, such as the integration of Ribbit's advanced voice services, SIP trunking and a Microsoft certification for integration with MS Office Communications Server. This allows us to deliver new capability into the fixed line voice market, leveraging existing customer telephony infrastructure and making the journey to unified communications and collaboration more attractive,' says Neil Sutton, Vice President, Global Portfolio, BT Global Services.

This savings offer is announced on the same day BT announced the launch of its Microsoft accredited SIP trunking service and follows the announcement of the Onevoice Ribbit v1.0 trial which embeds Ribbit's innovative voice features into the BT Onevoice solution. These innovations confirm BT's goal to reposition telephony services as true applications and deliver high quality global solutions with predictable and flexible commercial packages.

Notes to Editors
1 Based on cost analysis modelling already done on 11 multi-national customers including detailed before and after costs. The offer is applicable to all BT MPLS and traditional voice customers – if a customer has an MPLS-based VPN it is a natural step to layer Onevoice over this.

BT's Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) solutions include a combination of traditional voice services, next generation voice services including VoIP and IPT, BT professional services and support of key vendor platforms such as Cisco Systems, Avaya and Microsoft managed services.

Telenor launches new store concept in Norway

Fornebu - Norway's first two Telenor stores open in Sandvika and Storo today. The stores will provide ordinary people with a better understanding of how communication technology can make life easier.

"The idea behind the stores is to help people exploit the potential inherent in the products and services Telenor provides. The opportunities provided by telecommunications are currently so vast that many people are having trouble keeping up with them. We will demonstrate just how simple it can be," says Svein Henning Kirkeng, Private Markets Manager at Telenor in Norway.

In the Telenor stores in Norway people will be shown the possibilities that new technology can offer them in a simple and user-friendly way. This applies not only to mobile phones but also PCs, the Internet and fixed line telephony. In time, even TV services - on almost everything to do with screens - will become part of the Telenor store concept.

Best at service
The staff at the Telenor stores will go the extra mile to provide service, and people will feel that they are being taken care of.

"A great deal of the technology available at present is new and unfamiliar to many, and we know how frustrating it can be not to get the help you need and expect. This is the reason why service and competence are the most important cornerstones of the new Telenor stores. The customer must feel secure in the knowledge that complex home solutions will work optimally once they get home. We will care about the customer, even after the sale has been completed," says Kirkeng.

Family-friendly
The stores will be among the most modern in Norway, and will have a 52-inch screen where customers can navigate their way inside a virtual home and learn more about the possibilities available for their homes in the form of Telenor products.

"We plan to establish a chain of stores in towns and urban areas. We will lead everyone safely into our world of solutions. This is why the stores are equipped with simple and entertaining guides to solutions that can create a smoother day," says Kirkeng.

The stores have a separate area for kids which makes them well-suited to families. The kids can play around with technology while the parents get to know the store.

20 stores in the course of 2012
Two stores will open today, one in Sandvika Storsenter in Bærum and one in Storo Storsenter in Oslo. This marks the start of building a chain of Telenor stores in Norway, hopefully Telenor has established 20 stores in the course of 2012.

The Telenor stores in Norway will be franchised. Kjedehuset AS has been selected as the operating partner; they currently also run Telekiosken, Mobildata and Nordialog based on the same model.

BT passes 15 million broadband milestone

More than 5,000 new customers added a day since 2002
UK ahead of France, Germany and the USA for broadband take up 1

BT today revealed that fifteen million homes and small businesses now access broadband over the company's network. The milestone was passed in late August with more than five million of those connections being via BT Retail and the rest via other companies who benefit from equivalent access to the BT network.

Given BT had approximately 200,000 broadband connections in August 2002, the company has added 14.8 million connections in just eight years. This equates to more than 5,000 new broadband connections a day.

When Virgin Media customers are taken into account 2, the UK now has more than 19 million broadband premises using broadband. Those 19 million premises equate to 71 per cent of UK households, according to a recent Ofcom report 3, compared with just 35 per cent in 2005. The UK is ahead of France, Germany and the USA when it comes to broadband take up as a percentage of households 4.

The UK also boasts one of the best broadband availability figures in the world with 99 per cent of homes having access to broadband, a higher percentage than in France, Germany or Italy 5. Prices are also low thanks to a very competitive market in which BT has a retail market share of approximately 27 per cent. This compares with market shares of around 50 per cent for most major incumbents in Europe. 6

Olivia Garfield, BT strategy director said: 'Broadband Britain has been a success story with widespread availability, low prices and high take up. People were sceptical when BT backed broadband in 2002 but the figures speak for themselves with the vast majority of new customers choosing broadband over BT's network rather than alternative ones where prices are far higher.

'The story doesn't end here as BT is now investing a further £2.5 billion to roll out fibre broadband to two thirds of the UK. This will help the UK climb the league tables for speeds, one of the few areas in which we don't lead the world'.

1 Penetration measured as a percentage of households with broadband, OECD Portal 2010
2 Virgin Media reported broadband figures of 4.2m as at Q2 2010
3 Ofcom Communications Market Report 2010

5 Relates to DSL broadband availability only (excluding cable broadband), OECD Broadband Portal 2010

Sierra Wireless first to support Telstra’s dual-channel HSPA+ network with new USB modem and expanded wireless module lineup

Telstra Ultimate™ USB Modem by Sierra Wireless now available in Australia; new Sierra Wireless AirPrime™ HSPA+ embedded wireless modules introduced to support device manufacturers

Vancouver, Canada - Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR; TSX: SW) today announced that it is supporting the launch of Telstra's first-in-the-world dual-channel HSPA+ network in Australia with some of the fastest modems the company has ever produced. The Sierra Wireless AirCard® 312U wireless USB modem, first demonstrated at Mobile World Congress in February, is now commercially available in Australia, marketed as the Telstra Ultimate™ USB modem. With it, Australians working at client locations, at airports, or on their commute home can access the Internet and online applications at speeds typically reserved for office environments.

Dual-channel HSPA+ doubles the speeds of current HSPA+ networks from a peak downlink of 21 megabits per second (Mbps) to 42 Mbps, at the same time improving network efficiency and providing a better experience for customers with more consistent network performance. Customers using a Telstra Ultimate USB modem in enabled coverage areas will experience real-world download speeds up to 20 Mbps.

'The new speeds have the potential to increase how and where our small and large business customers work – boosting productivity in the process,' said Mike Wright, Executive Director, Telstra Networks & Access Technologies. 'Our customers have told us that they want higher speed mobile broadband so they can work more flexibly outside of the office and we are delighted to offer them these new speeds.'

In addition to announcing the commercial launch of the AirCard 312U, Sierra Wireless has introduced the AirPrime MC8801, as well as the AirPrime MC8704 and MC8705 intelligent embedded modules for HSPA+ networks, to support manufacturers incorporating wireless connectivity into a variety of devices, including notebook, netbook, and tablet computers; connected consumer electronics products like personal navigation devices; and home or enterprise-class routers.

'Once again, Telstra is leading the world in rolling out the latest HSPA+ technology, and we're thrilled to be the first to provide customers in Australia with products that enable them to take full advantage of the network's capabilities,' said Jin Pak, Vice President of Sales, Asia Pacific, for Sierra Wireless. 'Being first with wireless USB modems benefits our embedded customers as well. Manufacturers looking to provide the capabilities of the new AirCard 312U inside their devices can be confident that Sierra Wireless embedded modules deliver a tested, reliable solution for the best possible performance.'

The Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC8801 intelligent embedded module is designed to support HSPA+ Dual Channel networks and peak network downlink speeds of 42 Mbps. To provide a more cost-effective alternative for manufacturers that don't require the top speed, the new AirPrime MC8704 and MC8705 offer HSPA+ single channel support, with peak network downlink speed of 21 Mbps. The AirPrime MC8704 offers voice calling capability, while the MC8705 is targeted for data-centric devices that do not require voice support.

Samples of the AirPrime MC8801 and MC8705 are now available to customers for testing, with commercial shipments expected in the fourth quarter of this year. Samples of the AirPrime MC8704 are expected to be available early in 2011. With a substantial track record of working with network operators and manufacturing customers to integrate new wireless technologies quickly and reliably, Sierra Wireless offers the experience and expertise to simplify wireless integration and optimize time-to-market.

Jinny Reports Record Revenue Growth

Addition of new products enables strong growth in competitive markets

DUBLIN, 27 August 2010 - Jinny Software, a leading global supplier of messaging, call completion and media solutions to Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), today announced a record first half in 2010, posting its best ever revenue, EBITDA and order book figures. The company reported strong revenue progress and continues to deliver sound underlying performance both operationally and financially.

Having overcome tight market conditions in 2009, Jinny has doubled its turnover from the first half of 2009 to €8.6 million in the first half of 2010.

Against fierce competition, Jinny has broadened its customer presence in the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The company's total customer base increased to over 70 with more than 200 platforms installed in 60 countries worldwide. The number of subscribers interacting with Jinny platforms has grown to over 500 million.

This result was fuelled by the company's strategy of investing in products, solutions, strategic partnerships, additional sales personnel and an overall improvement in the effectiveness of the company's commercial operations.

During the first half of 2010, Jinny bolstered its already comprehensive Call Completion Solutions suite with the launch of its Call Router product, which has been designed to solve several problems facing MNOs, as well as to deliver a differentiating range of new and exciting, high-value features for operators and users, alike. In addition, Jinny launched a new mobile advertising solution, Ringback Tone Advertising, which provides mobile operators with a new way to generate revenue from mobile advertising.

'Jinny has delivered strong revenue growth during the first half of 2010,' stated Max Wilkie, Jinny's CEO. 'We see a robust demand for our messaging, call completion, media and mobile advertising solutions across our target markets. We are optimistic that this momentum will carry on into the remainder of 2010 and that Jinny will continue to deliver a strong performance in the second half of the year.'
